Toshiba is displaying a lifelike android at CEATEC Japan
2014. It has an appearance of a young woman, which blinks eyes and greets with
warm smile. This prototype android can smoothly move arms and hands. Like
humans, it also exchanges greetings and signs in Japanese. Toshiba further
plans to develop its functions further in various areas such as sensing, speech
synthesis, speech recognition and robotic control to realize a more
sophisticated social robot by 2020.
The company intends to develop the robot that is capable of assisting
people in the fields of welfare and healthcare.
